FAQ About Wedding Dance Lessons
Never danced before and don’t know what to expect?
You’re definitely not alone! Many of my couples have little or no dance experience when they begin. Lessons are relaxed, fun, and tailored to your comfort level. We’ll start with the basics and build from there so you feel natural and confident on the dance floor — not like you’re trying to memorize a complicated routine.
How many lessons will we need?
It depends on what you’d like your first dance to look like. Most couples take 3–5 lessons to feel comfortable and confident. If you’d like a more intricate routine, multiple dances, or additional choreography, you may want 6–10 lessons or more. We can decide together based on your goals, timeline, and experience.
Can you choreograph a dance to our specific song?
Absolutely! Your dance will be created specifically for your song, your personalities, and your comfort level. I have experience working with a wide variety of musical genres, tempos, and rhythms, so whether your song is slow and romantic, upbeat and playful, or something completely unexpected, we can create a dance that fits.
What if one of us can’t dance?
That’s completely okay — and very common! I’ve worked with many couples where one person has dance experience and the other has never danced before. I’ll make sure the choreography works for both of you so no one feels overwhelmed or left behind. The goal is for you to look comfortable together and enjoy the experience.
Do we need special shoes?
No special dance shoes are required. Wear shoes that are comfortable and stay securely on your feet. As your wedding gets closer, I recommend practicing in shoes similar to what you’ll wear on the wedding day so you can get used to the height, fit, and movement.
What should we wear to lessons?
Wear something comfortable that allows you to move easily. Casual clothes are perfectly fine. You don’t need to dress up for lessons! As you get closer to the wedding, it can be helpful to practice in clothing and shoes that are similar to your wedding-day attire, especially if you’ll be wearing a long dress, fitted gown, heels, or restrictive clothing.
Are we going to have to memorize a complicated routine?
Not unless you want to! Your dance can be as simple or as elaborate as you’d like. For many couples, the goal is simply to learn a few comfortable steps, turns, and transitions so they can relax, enjoy the music, and look great together. I’ll create something that feels natural for you rather than forcing you into choreography that doesn’t fit your personalities.
